I just really didn’t have anything to say and have been pretty busy and stressed. My life was so up in the air for so long. I have just been going to school, hunting for a job (which I never found), and stressing out about the next phase of my life.

Well now I know! I am going to be continuing my studies and going for my PhD in Administration of Justice at my undergraduate school. I feel much better knowing where I will be in 7 weeks. I went down this past weekend to talk to the professors, sign up for classes, meet the other students, find a place to live (which didn’t go well) and go the Homecoming game. After my experience, I knew I made the right decision. I can’t just sit around after school and hope I get a job, because if I don’t then I can’t pay my bills! This way I can further my education (something I knew I would go back and do anyway) while possibly working part-time only an hour and a half from the majority of my family and friends.

The program is great; there are only a few students, which means tons of attention and more opportunity to work on professional articles for publication and research with professors. Plus, I will be only 90 miles from my husband! YAY!

So off I go! In the next two months I am taking the MPRE, finishing up a paper and final exams, trying to find a place to live, graduating from law school, moving all my furniture and stuff 5 hours away, and somehow celebrating Thanksgiving/Christmas/Anniversary. Ahhhhhh! So if I am MIA again, you will know why! ☺

I am Still Alive.

I am, in fact, still alive. I found it very difficult to keep up with a blog over the summer. I was so busy!!! However, it was a pretty great summer. Not only did I finally get to spend a little bit of time with the husband, but I got to see some friends. Most importantly, I was able to do an internship, which was AWESOME experience.

I actually did a jury trial, some DUI trials, and some preliminary hearings. I found out that I really really want to be a prosecutor and actually get to practice trial law. I never saw myself as a trial lawyer, but now that is really all I can see myself doing…however, only as a prosecutor and not as a defense attorney.

But with the economy in the mess it is in, there are still no jobs available, so I may be continuing my studies in a PhD program, if I get accepted. I only have one more piece of the application process to complete. That piece is an essay on what my dissertation would be about and the methodology I would use. I already have an idea but it is just writing an essay about it that seems to be stumping me for some reason. Anyhow, in the next few days I am sure I will finish that up and hopefully hear back about acceptance in a month or so.

The new semester is alright, but after really practicing law this summer going back to law school seems almost pointless. I either want to get out there and practice or continue my studies…I really hate that I am graduating in this economy.

I am taking Criminal Trial Practice, Criminal Procedure 2, Children in the Legal System, Legal Profession, and Law and Literature. I actually have a lot to say about all these classes but I will get to that in a later blog post.

For now I will leave everyone with that. I am alive and I will hopefully be posting more frequently over the semester. One more semester…I have begun the countdown. Graduation in 15 weeks…

SIGH

Al Gore, Bill Clinton & Barrack Obama go to Heaven,
God addresses Al first. Finally, right?? Exams concluded and I so far have 4 out of 5 grades. As expected, they are nowhere near as awesome as last semester, but are so far decent. Only one unexpected surprise, as I did better in my paper class than I predicted. I did spend a lot of time on it because it was something I was very interested in, juvenile law. So I was really pleased to do well. The other grades, were not all that great. But again, at least it was expected.

I got to head down to the Mobile area for a couple of days, which were incredibly uneventful. I find myself wondering why I spent the 14 hours in the car. The purpose was to see my husband, but I only got to see him a couple of nights and he slept through most of the time we had together. He has a full time job and is currently filming a movie on the evenings and weekends, so he didn’t really have much time to spend with me. Let’s just say I was highly disappointed.

So I made the drive back to Mississippi so I could start my 2-week trial class. I was hoping to learn some skills so I could try the cases I will be assigned at my internship this summer. And I definitely have! It is a GREAT class. We are presenting two trials and learning a lot of skills. One week down and one to go.

I haven't commented on American Idol in a while. I have been a fan of Adam and Scott from day one. I was sad when Scott got eliminated, but I am really glad that Adam made it to the final. My parents were really upset when Danny got eliminated and I really think that he deserved to be in the final...but Kris totally rocked Heartless this past week. Let's just hope that Adam takes the title. He rocks. I have been watching the show since it has began and the person I have wanted to win has NEVER won. This would be the first time, if Adam wins!

Besides that, nothing else is really going on. I plan on cleaning out the house once the class is over and am considering getting rid of all my size 1/2 clothes and X-Small tops. I really wanted to fit into them again but I doubt it will happen. So if you know anyone who wants a lot of name brand stuff and is that size, please let me know!! Otherwise, I will just make the inevitable trip to Goodwill.

More later!

MIA

Last day of classes today and then I go into Finals Mode.

Thus, I will be MIA until after May 5th.

Wish me luck, this marathon study session is going to be a tough one. The 1.7 million out-of-wedlock births, of 4.3 million total births, marked a more than 25 percent jump from five years before."

While I can agree that a single-parent environment is not terrible, it has been proven in many studies that it is generally less beneficial to the children's development. In a few weeks I will finally get rid of my 2L status and be a 3L with only the fall semester left. I signed up for Children in the Legal System, Secured Transactions, Law & Literature, Criminal Procedure 2, and Land Finance. I may drop one, but that is what I have for now. Going to school last summer and doing the internship for class credit this summer so I could graduate in December was the best thing I ever did! :-) But now, I have to decide what I am going to be doing with myself after graduation in 8 months! I have no idea if I will be hired anywhere and I have always wanted a Phd. So, I am going through the tough decision of either going ahead, taking the BAR and praying someone will hire me before I have to make those student loan payments--or, taking two more years of classes and get my Phd. Everyone has given me opposing advice and I have no clue what to do. Part of the problem is that I am totally convinced that no one will hire me, especially with the economy in the state it is in and that fact that there is only one location I can look for a job because my husband already has a job there and it is the only place I want to live. SIGH!

When did April Fools Day Begin?

Here is an article I found at http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090331/sc_livescience/whendidaprilfoolsdaybegin today that answered a question I have always asked every April 1.

"Though pranksters and joke-lovers in many countries now gleefully prepare to dupe friends and loved ones on April Fool's Day, no one knows exactly when or why, or even where, this tradition began.
A giddy spurt of practical joking seems to have coincided with the coming of spring since the time of the Ancient Romans and Celts, who celebrated a festival of mischief-making. The first mentions of an All Fool's Day (as it was formerly called) came in Europe in the Middle Ages.
Some trace April Fool's Day back to Roman mythology, particularly the story of Ceres, Goddess of the harvest, and her daughter, Proserpina.
Pluto, God of the Dead, abducted Proserpina and took her to live with him in the underworld. The girl called out to her mother, but Ceres could only hear the echo of her daughter's voice and searched for her in vain.
Such "fool's errands," or wild goose chases, became a popular practical joke in Europe in later centuries.
The most widespread theory of the origin of April Fool's Day is the switch from the old Julian to the Gregorian calendar (now in use) in the late 16th century. Under the Julian calendar, the New Year was celebrated during the week between March 25 and April 1, but under the Gregorian calendar, it was moved to Jan. 1. Those who were not notified of the change, or stubbornly kept to the old tradition, were often mocked and had jokes played on them on or around the old New Year.
In France, this took the form of pranksters sticking fish on the backs of those who celebrated the old custom, earning the victims of the prank the name Poisson d'Avril, or April Fish.
But the theory can't explain why the pranking tradition spread to other countries in Europe that did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until later.
In Scotland, the butts of April Fool's jokes were known as April "Gowks," another name for a cuckoo bird. The origins of the "Kick Me" sign can supposedly be traced back to the Scottish observance of the day.
In more recent times, radio stations, TV programs and Web sites have set up gullible readers and listeners. One of the most notorious jokes was a 1957 hoax BBC documentary of the annual spaghetti harvest in Switzerland, featuring a family plucking strands of the pasta from "spaghetti trees." The Italian favorite was still considered an exotic delicacy in Britain at the time, and many listeners were so fooled they wanted to find out how to get a spaghetti bush of their own.
On April 1, 2007 Internet search engine Google announced their new Gmail Paper service, where users of the free email service could save emails to a paper archive which Google would print out and mail for free. Last year, Google invited people to sign up for a Mars exploration project.
So while you're surfing the web or watching TV today, be wary of what you see and read, or you could end up an April Fool!"

Music for the Week: Coldplay

With is being so rainy and dreary all week, there is no better mellow music to listen to than Coldplay!

http://coldplay.com/

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 122px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0GJCJWaKclI/SdKEN274tiI/AAAAAAAAAZI/T5MaIsaWlG4/s400/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319459483497838114" />

Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

I found this at http%2525253A//eserver.org/philosophy/chicken.txt and had to post it!!!! It is fabulous!

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD?

Plato: For the greater good.

Karl Marx: It was a historical inevitability.

Machiavelli: So that its subjects will view it with admiration,
as a chicken which has the daring and courage to
boldly cross the road, but also with fear, for whom
among them has the strength to contend with such a
paragon of avian virtue? In such a manner is the
princely chicken's dominion maintained.

Hippocrates: Because of an excess of light pink gooey stuff in its
pancreas.

Jacques Derrida: Any number of contending discourses may be discovered
within the act of the chicken crossing the road, and
each interpretation is equally valid as the authorial
intent can never be discerned, because structuralism
is DEAD, DAMMIT, DEAD!

Thomas de Torquemada: Give me ten minutes with the chicken and I'll find out.

Timothy Leary: Because that's the only kind of trip the Establishment
would let it take.

Douglas Adams: Forty-two.

Nietzsche: Because if you gaze too long across the Road, the Road
gazes also across you.

Oliver North: National Security was at stake.

B.F. Skinner: Because the external influences which had pervaded its
sensorium from birth had caused it to develop in such a
fashion that it would tend to cross roads, even while
believing these actions to be of its own free will.

Carl Jung: The confluence of events in the cultural gestalt
necessitated that individual chickens cross roads at
this historical juncture, and therefore
synchronicitously brought such occurrences into being.

Jean-Paul Sartre: In order to act in good faith and be true to itself,
the chicken found it necessary to cross the road.

Ludwig Wittgenstein: The possibility of "crossing" was encoded into the
objects "chicken" and "road", and circumstances came
into being which caused the actualization of this
potential occurrence.

Albert Einstein: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed
the chicken depends upon your frame of reference.

Aristotle: To actualize its potential.

Buddha: If you ask this question, you deny your own chicken-
nature.

Howard Cosell: It may very well have been one of the most astonishing
events to grace the annals of history. An historic,
unprecedented avian biped with the temerity to attempt
such an herculean achievement formerly relegated to
homo sapien pedestrians is truly a remarkable occurence.

Salvador Dali: The Fish.

Darwin: It was the logical next step after coming down from
the trees.

Emily Dickinson: Because it could not stop for death.

Epicurus: For fun.

Ralph Waldo Emerson: It didn't cross the road; it transcended it.

Johann von Goethe: The eternal hen-principle made it do it.

Ernest Hemingway: To die. That's the (censored)
reason.

Pyrrho the Skeptic: What road?

Ronald Reagan: I forget.

John Sununu: The Air Force was only too happy to provide the
transportation, so quite understandably the chicken
availed himself of the opportunity.

The Sphinx: You tell me.

Mr. T: If you saw me coming you'd cross the road too!

Henry David Thoreau: To live deliberately ... and suck all the marrow
out of life.

Mark Twain: The news of its crossing has been greatly exaggerated.

Molly Yard: It was a hen!

Zeno of Elea: To prove it could never reach the other side.

Chaucer: So priketh hem nature in hir corages.

Wordsworth: To wander lonely as a cloud.

The Godfather: I didn't want its mother to see it like that.

Keats: Philosophy will clip a chicken's wings.

Blake: To see heaven in a wild fowl.

Othello: Jealousy.

Dr Johnson: Sir, had you known the Chicken for as long as I have,
you would not so readily enquire, but feel rather the
Need to resist such a public Display of your own
lamentable and incorrigible Ignorance.

Mrs Thatcher: This chicken's not for turning.

Supreme Soviet: There has never been a chicken in this photograph.

Oscar Wilde: Why, indeed? One's social engagements whilst in
town ought never expose one to such barbarous
inconvenience - although, perhaps, if one must cross a
road, one may do far worse than to cross it as the
chicken in question.

Kafka: Hardly the most urgent enquiry to make of a low-grade
insurance clerk who woke up that morning as a hen.

Swift: It is, of course, inevitable that such a loathsome,
filth-ridden and degraded creature as Man should assume
to question the actions of one in all respects his
superior.

Macbeth: To have turned back were as tedious as to go o'er.

Whitehead: Clearly, having fallen victim to the fallacy of
misplaced concreteness.

Freud: An die andere Seite zu kommen. If you are an older person, your preference for white could indicate a desire for perfection and impossible ideals, maybe an attempt to recapture lost youth and freshness. It may also symbolize a desire for simplicity or the simple life.

Red: The color of strength, health, and vitality, Red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps. Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for the warmth, strength and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures, with a zest for life.

Maroon: Harsh experience has probably matured the Maroon person into someone likeable and generous. It is often a favorite color of someone who has been battered by life but has come through. It indicates a well-disciplined Red personality—one who has had difficult experiences and has not come through unmarked but who has grown and matured in the process.

Pink: This color embodies the gentler qualities of Red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Women who prefer Pink tend to be maternal. Pink desires protection, special treatment and a sheltered life. Pink people require affection and like to feel loved and secure, perhaps wanting to appear delicate and fragile. Pink people tend to be charming and gentle, if a trifle indefinite.

Orange: This color of luxury and pleasure appeals to the flamboyant and fun-loving person who likes a lively social round. Orange people may be inclined to dramatize a bit, and people notice them, but they are generally good-natured and popular. They can be a little fickle and vacillating, but on the whole they try hard to be agreeable. Orange is the color of youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness.

Yellow: The color of happiness, wisdom and imagination, Yellow is chosen by the mentally adventurous, searching for novelty and self-fulfillment. Yellow usually goes with a sunny and shrewd personality, with a good business head and a strong sense of humor. It is the color of intellectuality and all things to do with the mind. Yellow folks are usually clear and precise thinkers who have a good opinion of their own mental capacities and who have lofty ideals. They may at times tend to shun responsibility, preferring freedom of thought and action.

Green: The color of harmony and balance, Green symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, and is usually liked by the gentle and sincere. Greens are generally frank, community-minded people, fairly sociable but preferring peace at any price. Green people can be too self-effacing, modest and patient, so they may get exploited by others. They are usually refined, civilized and reputable.

Blue: Soft, soothing, compassionate and caring, Blue is the color of deliberation and introspection, conservatism and duty. Patient, persevering, conscientious, sensitive and self-controlled, Blues like to be admired for their steady character and wisdom. They are faithful, but are often worriers with somewhat inflexible beliefs and can be too cautious, and suspicious of flamboyant behavior.

Blue-Green: Exacting, discriminating, poised and attractive, the Blue-Green person tends to be sensitive, intellectual and refined, persevering and stable if rather detached. Blue-Greens have excellent taste, and are usually courteous and charming, capable but often refusing help or guidance.

Turquoise: Complex, imaginative and original, Turquoise people drive themselves hard and may be in a state of turmoil under their outwardly cool exterior.

Lavender: This is often chosen by a person who lives “on a higher plane,” who never notices anything sordid and who is always impeccably and beautifully dressed. Lavender people may be on a continual quest for culture and the refined things of life, high and noble causes but without the necessity of getting their hands dirty. A Lavender person is usually creative, charming, witty and civilized.

Purple: Purples are highly individual, fastidious, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique and different. Temperamental, expansive and artistic, a Purple person may become aloof and sarcastic when misunderstood. If you chose Purple, you tend to be unconventional, tolerant and dignified, likely to achieve positions of authority.

Brown: A Brown person has stamina and patience, tending to be very solid and substantial, conscientious, dependable, steady and conservative. Browns are not impulsive, and may be inarticulate and tactless but they love responsibility and are reliable and kindly. If you chose Brown, watch out for a tendency to be obstinate and inflexible.

Gray: The color of caution and compromise, diligent Grays search for composure and peace and often work hard without reward. Older Grays like life to run on an even keel with few ups and downs. Young Grays may be withdrawing from life and suppressing their personalities. Grays often have good business ability and tend to work too much.

Black: Dignified and impressive without being showy, Black people want to give the appearance of mystery, but their preference may also indicate a suppression of desires and worldly aims, suggesting hidden depths and inner longings.

Spring Break is Over.

So I am done with my last true Spring Break ever. Unfortunately the week was pretty uneventful, but I plan on making up for that over the summer. I at least got to see some of my friends and go out one night, but the rest of the week was spent going to doctors' appointments and working on my paper and taxes. I was hoping to go to the beach, but the pollen was so bad in Mob-town that my husband couldn't go outside. Instead we spent a day watching movies and playing scattegories. I just keep reminding myself that I have plenty of time this summer to hit the beach.

With all that said, I am back to school and hoping the next four weeks will fly by so I can get my 16 credits and enjoy a much needed break. Here is a picture I found online and thought I would share...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 325px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0GJCJWaKclI/SceyPH7qJ1I/AAAAAAAAAYo/CanXS0kWdtk/s400/198204.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316413858031216466" />

I also found this paper. BIG surprise! I think it is so sad how he had everyone so snowed during the 2004 election. Even some Republicans liked Edwards and I was surprised when he didn’t go further in the 2008 election. Well, good thing since he is a big fat liar! Guess his political career is over.

I find it really ironic that Obama promised to bring the troops home and to make good said he was taking them out of Iraq as promised…but sending them to Afghanistan. Classic double talk! On another note, my Word document always says that I have misspelled “Obama” and I refused to click “add” to my Word dictionary so it will stop underlining his name in red.

TELEVISION/MOVIES:
My American Idol Review: I was really surprised when they picked a Top 13. I guess they just really wanted Anoop Dog even though he totally butchered “My Prerogative” on the wild card show. The judges would not have been able to explain why they picked Anoop over other, better singers so they just made another spot. I am actually really happy with the Top 13 though. They kept saying for the past few years that it would be “the most talented” American Idol ever…but I believe it this season. America/the judges actually made the right choices, minus Michael and Chris, and I am really looking forward to watching this season. No bad girl country singers!!!! I am extremely excited about Scott and I really hope he goes all the way to the top!!! I know I will be voting for him every week.

There will be a new season of South Park starting Wednesday. Kenny gets a purity ring. I cannot WAIT to see it!

So, Dakota Fanning is going to be in the new Twilight movie. I hate the whole idea of Twilight but I am now convinced that I have to at least watch the movie because I love Dakota Fanning.

SCHOOL:
I got my Midterm results back last week and did much better than expected. I guess no one had time to study because I did not deserve the grade I received. It was such a relief that I didn’t totally ruin my grade and now I hope I can bump it up a little on the final.

So I have finally started my paper and have about 1/4th of it completed. The topic is all over the place and I know I am probably going to go through like 3 drafts of this thing before it is finished. Did you know that Mobile was the first city in Alabama to have its own juvenile court? I am learning so much about the juvenile justice system, which is great because it is what I want to do for a living, but I just wish that I could take a juvenile justice class. They don’t really seem to offer that here. There is one class “Children in the Legal System” and it is taught by the Dean of the law school so everyone takes it whether they care about the topic or not, so it is always full and I can never get in. Considering I only have one semester left, hopefully I will get in for the Fall semester.

MUSIC:
I began a “Music for the Weekend” post last year and failed to live up to what I wanted to do with it. Well, I am going to attempt to return to this weekly post. As I missed getting this post up yesterday as I hoped, the music for the week is The Lonely Island. http://thelonelyisland.com/ It is hilarious! Enjoy the videos on the site. Especially, I’m On a Boat!

"A liberal is a person who will give away everything they don't own."

I read this and got a good laugh today:

"I voted Democrat because
I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are
obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas
at 15% isn't.

I voted Democrat because
I believe the government will do a better job of
spending the money I earn than I would.

I voted Democrat because
Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I voted Democrat because
When we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what
they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I voted Democrat because
I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police
Are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

I voted Democrat because
I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can
tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away In ten years if I don't
start driving a Prius.

I voted Democrat because
I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for
themselves .
